Pedestrian Tales From the Middle of the Road, #13

Well, I knew it was too good to be true… We’ve gone a good while (for around here, at least) without a pedestrian death in the middle of the street- but luck’s run out for #13. May God bless his family, and may God bless those who appear to have hit him.

Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney and Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings, here’s another one on your watch. Enforce our pedestrian traffic laws and folks will get back into the habit of walking on sidewalks- for now, folks continue to show that if they’re not required to do so, they won’t do so.

I-4 westbound closed in Orlando because of pedestrian death

Interstate 4 westbound is closed from John Young Parkway to Conroy Road because of a pedestrian fatality, Orlando police said.

A man walking on the highway about 7:45 p.m. was hit by several vehicles,
police Lt. Barbara Jones said.  Three vehicles stopped, but police received calls from other drivers who thought they might have run over the man and from witnesses who said more cars were involved, she said.

Officers are diverting traffic at John Young Parkway until a medical examiner arrives and investigators complete their work. It’s not clear when that stretch of highway will reopen.

Officers don’t know why the man was in the road.  A police chaplain was on scene to counsel the drivers who hit the pedestrian.
