Pedestrian Tales From the Middle of the Road, #30

Recently, we’ve had the 30th death of this sort to light since I started documenting these, and it’s another sad one indeed. An older gentleman dies- but a young lady only 20 years old must deal with having run him over as he walked in front of her for the rest of her life.

This comes under the not-so-watchful eyes of Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney and Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings. Demings is up for re-election this year and is expected to cruise to victory in a landslide. I wonder how that’s possible when he’s done nothing towards enforcing our traffic laws and keeping folks alive. Just sayin’…

Pedestrian struck, killed on Colonial Drive
By Arelis R. Hernández, Orlando Sentinel

A 68-year-old man was killed Friday night while attempting to cross Colonial Drive. Florida Highway Patrol troopers said Joaquin Rodriguez, of Orlando, was pronounced dead at Florida Hospital East where he was taken after being struck.

Troopers said Rodriguez was half way across East Colonial Drive between Westfall Drive and Dean Road about 9:10 p.m. when Haley Gibbons’ Toyota Scion hit him.

Gibbons, 20, of Orlando was not injured in the crash.
FHP spokeswoman Wanda Diaz said she is not facing any charges.

May God bless the Rodriguez family, and may He bless and provide comfort and counsel to young Haley Gibbons and her family.
