I know it’s a free house, but…

Saying business has been brisk recently would surely be an understatement.  I’m seeing demand for rental properties here in Central Florida that continues to be at 5 or 6-year highs– and Economics 101 is a course taught daily.  Our owner/investor clients are very happy when their homes are on the market for a very short time- and tenant prospects must move quickly to land a place they’re interested in or risk losing it.

That said, comments, questions and attitudes of tenant prospects continue to amaze me.

While showing a home with fresh paint throughout, professional job done in neutral colors…“Do you think the owners would paint?”  No, ma’am- they just did.

While showing a home with great ceramic tile flooring throughout…“My feet get cold on this tile.  Do you think the owners would replace it with some new carpet?” No, sir.  Everyone has different tastes in flooring- and this owner is fine with leaving the tile flooring as is for the time being.

While showing a home with brand-new Berber carpeting throughout…“We have a nephew that comes over about twice a month, and we think he might be coming down with some sort of asthma or carpet allergies or something.  Do you think the owners would replace it with some ceramic tile or something?” No, ma’am. Everyone has different tastes in flooring- and this owner is fine with leaving the new carpet as is for the time being.

While showing a home with new appliances throughout…“Do you think the owner would replace this refrigerator? This one doesn’t even give you ice water out the front of the door.” No, ma’am. The owners paid a good bit of money for this new one, and the tags are still on it- I don’t think they’d be looking to get another one just yet.

It’s hard to believe folks sometimes- and our job truly does require some eye-roll suppression skills that at times I admittedly lack. I’m still working to hone those bad boys, but I’m doing my best!

I know it’s a free house, but…
