Pedestrian Tales From the Middle of the Road, #40

OK.  Even the most casual of visitors to my blog here will surely know that my accompanying story won’t involve the guy in the photo above.  You see, unlike this guy (who’s in the crosswalk for some strange reason), folks around here typically don’t frequent or patronize those “crosswalk things”.

Unfortunately, being too cool for crosswalks has tragic consequences- and today’s story (courtesy, Orlando Sentinel) marks the 40th instance of a pedestrian whose death was due to their not observing our traffic laws.  This is the 40th individual whose family will be missing someone this holiday season due to their not following a crazy ol’ “cross at the crosswalk” rule.

Pedestrian killed in I-Drive crash

A pedestrian was killed overnight after being struck by a pickup on International Drive.

The victim was identified as 46-year-old Robert Haun of Lansing, Mich. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, he was in the shoulder on I-Drive near Austrian Row at about 2:20 a.m. Sunday when he began to walk across the southbound traffic lanes.

He was then struck by a Ford E350 driven by Ordeus St. Remy, 59, of Orlando.

St. Remy had not been drinking prior to the crash, FHP said. Blood-alcohol tests on Haun were pending.

The investigation is ongoing, according to FHP.
