Pedestrian Tales From the Middle of the Road, #45

Didn’t take long to go from #44 to #45 on this list- as we’ve had yet another pedestrian lose his life by counting on vehicular traffic to simply stop for him whenever he decided to cross the road.  It’s a bet he lost- and one he’ll never get to recover from.

Another one on your watch, Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings and Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney.  How many folks have to lose their lives before you truly take pedestrian safety seriously?  Blaming deaths and accidents on a lack of sidewalks around here is grossly disingenuous when crosswalks exist and folks choose to cross the elsewhere.  That’s an enforcement and education issue, fellas.

Pedestrian dies after being hit on OBT

A pedestrian was struck and fatally injured by a car while walking across Orange Blossom Trail south of downtown.

The victim was identified as 30-year-old Robert Kerce of Orlando, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

He apparently was walking across OBT south of Rose Boulevard at about 12:40 a.m. when he walked into the path of an oncoming car driven by 30-year-old Ali Rizvi of Orlando.  He was not in a crosswalk when he was struck, FHP said.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.
