Pedestrian Tales From the Middle of the Road, #49

A birthday celebration turns into sadness- as local woman (apparently) leaves party for a walk down Interstate 4.  No fairy tale ending to this story, folks.

Sadly, this death comes under the watch of one of my favorite local law enforcement officials- Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.

Woman killed on I-4 after celebration

June 1, 2013|By Kathryn Varn, Orlando Sentinel

A Port Charlotte woman reported missing after she disappeared from her birthday celebration was hit and killed by a car Saturday morning while walking down Interstate 4 a few miles southeast of the Walt Disney World property.

At about 4:30 a.m., Orlando resident Nina P. Samigullina, 59, hit Cyndi Lynn Sernaque, 52, with her 2012 Chevy Equinox while driving on I-4 about a mile east of U.S. Highway 27, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said.

A nearby deputy drove to the scene.

As the deputy was investigating the crash, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a missing person from the ChampionsGate area about 11/2 miles from the accident.

Osceola deputies learned that Sernaque was celebrating her birthday with her husband and was last seen at the Reunion Resort.

Sernaque may have been under the influence of alcohol or prescription drugs at the time of the crash, according to the release.

Speed or impairment on Samigullina’s part was not a factor in the accident.

The investigation is ongoing, but there are no pending charges.
