You can keep your “Happy Veterans Day”

Those who have read my posts for any significant amount of time are aware of the time I spent in the Navy– and of the time spent and sacrifices made by a number of my close friends and family members in an effort to keep America safe and free.  I won’t dwell on any of that today, however- choosing instead to dedicate my Veterans Day message today to the memory of the 4 American heroes killed in Benghazi, Libya 425 days ago.  Pictured from the top, they are:

U.S. Ambassador to Libya John Christopher Stevens (4/18/60-9/12/12)

Former Navy S.E.A.L. (HM1) Glen Anthony Doherty (7/10/70-9/12/12)

Former Navy S.E.A.L. (SCPO, Ret.) Tyrone Snowden Woods (1/15/71-9/12/12)

U.S. Foreign Service Officer (and former Air Force SSgt) Sean Patrick Smith (6/1/1978-9/11/12)

Don’t get me wrong- I appreciate everyone who typically offers kind words on this day.  On this particular Veterans Day, however, I respectfully request that you direct a phone call, email or fax to The White House in lieu of sending anything my way.  It’s been 425 days since our four heroes lost their lives, and their friends and loved ones have seen absolutely no one held accountable for the actions leading to their untimely deaths.

These four heroes’ families deserve better…we all deserve better, and we all deserve answers.  Parades are great, but the best thing we can do for all of our veterans- those who have served, those who will serve and those currently in uniform– is to guarantee we’ll do everything we possibly can to ensure their safety.  And when our heroes fall, we must hold those responsible for their deaths accountable.

That responsibility begins with you, Mr. President.  Can you start the process of accepting responsibility for our four heroes’ deaths today- and will you finally let the Benghazi attack’s survivors speak?

Until you do, You can keep your “Happy Veterans Day”
