9/11: Have you forgotten? How will you mark the day?

9/11:  Have you forgotten?  How will you mark the day?

9/11:  Have you forgotten?  How will you mark the day?

“You have B52′s, your apaches and your Abrams [tank], but we have men who are dedicated, sincere, with hearts of lions”.

“We will kill you wherever we find you.”

Today marks the 4,748th day since tragedy was visited upon America’s shores by way of Al-Qaeda’s operatives- and I pause today to reflect on the 2,977 innocent lives lost in New York City, Washington, D.C. and a non-descript field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.  Whether aboard American Airlines Flight 11, United Airlines Flight 175 or United Airlines Flight 93, every life was precious and every one left behind a void which all these days later remains unfilled.

May God bless the memories of all who were lost, and may He provide counsel as only He can to those left behind.

The quotes above could very well have come from a time 13 years ago- when the 9/11 attack on our homeland was fresh in our minds. Having just seen our homeland attacked by agents of homicide in recent days, the words would’ve struck a chord with us and placed a lingering question in our heads as to whether another attack might soon come.

The quotes aren’t from 2001, though- or from ’03, 05 or even last year.  They’re tweets from a group calling themselves either ISIL or ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant or Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, respectively).  They mean business, America- and they’re seriously committed to their goals.  Deadly serious.

A few years ago, I wrote the following post: http://activerain.trulia.com/blogsview/2259022/jesus–terrorists–illegal-aliens—are-you-committed-

“Jesus, terrorists, illegal aliens…are YOU committed?” asks a question that’s as relevant today as it was when I wrote it in 2011.  We’re a nation at risk, America. There are some who seek to change our way of life and others who simply seek to end our lives- and it’ll be the choices we make which will determine our path and our fate.

As these quotes indicate, the world knows America isn’t lacking for firepower or technology.  Even those we’ll never consider our country’s friends readily acknowledge our military superiority. Without question, our military remains the finest the planet’s ever known- and I am forever grateful for my fellow veterans and those currently serving. What we lack as a nation is resolve.

So as we stop to remember those lost on September 11th, 2001, let’s also remember James Wright Foley (10/18/73-8/19/14) and Steven Joel Sotloff (5/11/83-9/2/14).  Let’s resolve that these brave journalists will be the last to fall at the hands of evil.  May God bless their memories and legacies, and may He provide their families with the comfort which comes from knowing they are not forgotten.

So what say you, America- have you forgotten?  I can assure you there’s someone who remembers- and he’s counting on our resolve being weak. The names may have changed since 9/11- from Al-Qaeda to Abu Sayyaf, Hamas to ISIL and ISIS, but the aim remains the same. However misguided they may seem, Stone Age savages around the world continue to illustrate the grim reality that there are more folks around the world committed to destroying us than we have truly committed to saving us.

Indeed, while our enemies are willing to die for their cause and working toward killing us every day, we do nothing but wallow in our undeserved complacency and eschew opportunities to vote if a weather forecast calls for rain.

It’s my hope and prayer today that God will continue to bless America. His Word instructs us that for the righteous, no enemy formed against us will prosper. Whether America remains a righteous nation worthy of protection from guys like the one below, however, remains to be seen.
