Well, my wildly popular Pedestrian Tales From the Middle of the Road series has over 70 postings that chronicle the deaths of folks who’ve decided to venture into the middle of the street- tempting death by daring vehicular traffic to touch them as they shirk our pedestrian traffic laws. It’s a dare they’re often called on- and a deadly game that far too many of them lose.
The most troubling of it all? The deaths and injuries are unnecessary. Do motorists fail to yield to folks in crosswalks? Absolutely- and those motorists should be ticketed, fined and/or prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. But those pedestrians who fail to yield the right of way to motorists must accept the consequences for their actions as well. If our local authorities would address that issue, perhaps fewer families would be left to mourn and accept the consequences of their family members who made bad choices.
On this page, I’ll offer photos from my daily travels around Orlando. As a Realtor and residential property manager, I’m on the road a great deal as I show properties and meet with owners and others. These folks in my pictures are not ones I sought out for photo opportunities by any means– but simply ones I’ve come across in the normal course of my business. Many outside Orlando will be shocked by them- but my hope is that many who live around here and know the situation all too well will stop rolling their eyes in these cases and start speaking up.
